
North Downs Golf Club held its Men's Club Scratch and Handicap Championships over the weekend of 3rd and 4th July
The scoring on the first day reflected the perfect playing conditions and the excellent greens
In the Scratch Competition defending champion Ian Slater carded a 68 to take an early 4 shot lead over the rest of the field
In the Handicap Competition there were net scores of 60 from Malcolm Croissant, a Past Captain, 61 from Gordon MacClean and 63s from Martin Smale, Rob White and Ted Robinson, also a Past Captain
The second day proved more of a challenge with a gusting wind making playing conditions more difficult
However in the Scratch Competition defending Champion Ian Slater carded a 74 to give a two day total of 142 some 8 shots ahead of Neil Sparrow (150) and George Sciuriaga (151)
In the Handicap Competition the conditions took more of an effect with some of the first day leaders falling away. The eventual winner was Martin Smale with net scores of 63 and 63 giving a total of 126. 2nd was Gordon MacClean (131) and 3rd was Chris Colvin (133)
All entrants paid tribute to a course which was in excellent condition
