North Downs, located near the pretty village of Woldingham, not far from Caterham, was founded in 1899 as a nine-hole course and extended to 18 holes in 1971. Part of the club house still retains its listed building status which adds to the atmosphere in the lounge
The 5,815 yards, par 69 course is challenging and enjoyable with spectacular views from many parts of the course
At 850 feet up in the folds of the North Downs, the terrain is gentle giving time to enjoy not only the course but the varied views. From the 14th and 15th tee there are views across London and in the distance Crystal Palace and the Gherkin can be seen. A recent addition, now it is finished, is the London Shard which is a spectacular sight when the sun is reflected from it
Each of the holes has its own name most of which reflect the make-up of the hole.
The par threes have their own unique challenge and the par fours reward accurate driving and good positioning to find the greens
The Club has a reputation for friendliness and new members are invited to join various groups within the Club and will never find themselves standing on the first tee alone
The course is always in good condition and offers some of the finest greens in Surrey so enjoy a scenic game of golf at North Downs said to be the highest course in Southern England. Peter Alliss described the Club as “A gem of a course in Surrey”
